Bees push Dogs into Overtime

Final Score - Bracknell Bees 2-3 Sheffield Steeldogs (after OT)

Stuart Brittle's overtime goal condemned the Bees to a 3-2 loss at The Hive.

Goals from Shaun Thompson and Matt Foord had given Bracknell a vital point and a chance of winning in the extra period. However, Brittle struck to take the extra point back to Yorkshire.

The Steeldogs battled hard during the first period, but had to wait until the final minute to break the deadlock. Janis Ozolins set up Andre Payette to slam the puck past Tom Annetts.

The visitors to The Hive started brightly in the second period and a had a power play opportunity to extend their lead. However, Matt Foord had other ideas and his hard work paid off with a shorthanded goal.

Neither side could dominate the second period as both goaltenders made several top saves. Sheffield did restore their lead early in the third period when Andrew Hirst found the net. Some good build up by Pavel Gomeniuk allowed Hirst to score with eight minutes remaining.

The Bees threw everything forward in search of the tying goal. With 28 seconds remaining on the clock, the home side were given a huge opportunity to level the score when a penalty shot was awarded.

Despite immense pressure, Shaun Thompson kept his cool to calmly drill the puck past Steeldogs netminder Ben Bowns. Bracknell had a great chance take both points, as they started overtime with a man advantage. However, the Bees couldn't make the most of the power play chance, and the away side made them pay.

Stuart Brittle scored with 23 seconds remaining in the extra period to give the Steeldogs the second point. The Bees picked up a vital point, meaning they are only one point behind the Swindon Wildcats, but remain in eighth place in the English Premier league.
